Hello, I am looking for a project management similar to web2Project. Is web2Project still under development? It appears that the last release was in 2014. Is that correct? I am not trying to be offensive. I need to be sure that the direction I take the business in is going to be viable. Thanks, Andre

Hello Andre,

it seems you missed the announcements section. Just look here:

http://support.web2project.net/questions/2749/patches-requested-for-34-pre.html.

We are using it at my company, so I will keep it running while we are using it.

best regards,

Klaus

Hi Klaus, Thanks for your reply. I did miss that announcement. I'm glad to see that development is still ongoing. I am working in residential construction. We are needing to manage projects from quote to final payment. Is there an online demo available? Thanks, Andre

I don't think there is an online demo- that would actually be Keith's responsibility (who is a fresh father so less available at the moment). I never used the financial stuff so I don't know how reliable that is. There are some bug messages with solutions in this forum which I will pull into 3.4pre as my time allows.\nIf you are fit in PHP - any bug fixes are welcome. Klaus

Hi Keith, We wouldn't be using web2project for any hardcore financials... more for tracking milestones of payments, progress claims etc. in relation to projects. Our financial software takes care of the rest. I wil check with our IT support about installing a WAMP to give web2project a decent go. I was in the process of implementing web2project in a different business about 6 years ago. I had developed an Access database that worked pretty well through the quotation process but needed to expand into the operations side of things and include a web portal. II had looked into all the pm software options at that time and found web2project to have just the right balance of ease of use and ability to customise. Our national office then decided that all branches had to use the product developed for $3 million that frankly was not as reliable, robust or user friendly as web2project. The project management software landscape has changed somewhat over the years but I have not come across anything yet that actually seems superior to what I remember of web2project. I'll keep you posted on my progress... Do you know of anyone using web2project in the construction industry? Cheers, Andre

P.S. Will web2project run on the latest WAMP? If not, what versions would work? Thanks.

Will web2Project run on Ubuntu 16.04? Our IT providers would prefer to provide this version of Ubuntu. If not, what is the ideal version of Ubuntu that I should ask for? Thanks.

I'm testing in a VM environment with Ubuntu 16.04.1 server. This runs php7. Looks like it runs ok (generally) but I have an issue with the display of gantt charts. Possibly something to do with jpgraph. I've worked on upgrading jpgraph to latest available but now have a jpgraph font issue affecting the chart display that I need to track down. I need to check what happens if I revert to php5 and native w2p install. For what it's worth, I run MariaDB and this works fine with w2p. Cheers, Sasquatch

Hi from Greece,

I set Web2Project up (as a very good starting framework and extended it, with ideas of my client) for an accounting firm, with so much success that its customers are considering using it too! Some of the customers include construction firms, who follow the tasks of their firm that our office performs and asked permission to set up projects of their own in my setup (ISP with Unix and PHP 7, namely papaki.gr). Due to the nature of our business, we don't use Gantt chart. According to our workflow, most tasks start and end within the same day, BUT they have to finish by a specific date, or we are bust!! So, we mainly use it to verify that no task gets forgotten. Some of our customers DO use it as a regular PM platform, along with Gantt charts, task dependencies etc, without any complaints. We don't use "Departments" as well, but support for this feature is trivial. If you want, I can give you a personal account for a Demo Company, with which you can "play" without fear for destroying anything. Just send me an email with the username and password you wish to have.

As a resume, I will personally try to support Web2Project as best as I can, because it is to my best interest (and not because "I am a nice guy" or have any economic profit from the support) and contribute to its development. I guess Klaus (opto) and Sasquatch will do the same, for similar reasons... Web2Project is alive and kicking!
