At times, when I open an existing project that has populated custom fields, the fields suddenly change to contain a 0 instead of the data that was there. Has anyone else seen this, and what could be causing this?

Verify that a) the values still exist in the database and b) they are retrieved before showing the form. I am not sure but sometimes, you only get the values, because the page is saved in the cache of your browser, not because they are there in the form. I usually do several \"refresh\"es, before I am sure the data is there. Also, try to change it and see if the new values are saved in the database. I had the same problem with custom field in events, and found out that the actual data was not saved in the database, only locally in my cache...
